Zakah on commercial shares offered for sale

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q3: The shares for which it has not been confirmed 100% that the companies pay zakah on them, but only on the basis of news, no more. And you know, Your Eminence, that news may be true or false.
A3: Ask the company that holds the shares you own. If it pays the full zakah on them and has been authorized by the shareholders to do so, then you owe nothing. If it pays only part of the zakah, then you must pay the remainder. If it pays nothing, then the shareholder must pay the zakah. Note that the shares on which zakah is obligatory are commercial shares that are offered for sale. As for fixed shares that are not intended for sale, but rather for investment, zakah is obligatory on their yield if it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold for zakah) on its own or when combined with other assets, and a lunar year has passed over it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
