Zakat on Gold

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 17152 )
Q: My sister passed away on 9/5/1399 AH, and she bequeathed some gold to her two adult daughters. After a period of time, they began selling it as follows: on 8/4/1412 AH, for an amount equivalent to 2310 riyals. On 25/10/1412 AH, for an amount equivalent to 2300 riyals. On 22/7/1413 AH, for an amount equivalent to 3680 riyals.
On 25/12/1413 AH, for an amount equivalent to 10,000 riyals. If they wish to pay its zakat, how many riyals should they pay, given that they do not remember the weight of the gold? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you, may Allah reward you with good.

A: If each one’s share reaches the nisab (minimum threshold for zakah) or more, either by itself or when combined with the money or trade goods she has, and the nisab for gold is equivalent to ninety-two (92) grams, then zakat is obligatory on it at the rate of one-quarter of one-tenth for each year that has passed; because zakat is paired with prayer in the Book of Allah, and Allah the Exalted said:
And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah
[At-Tawbah 9:34]
meaning they do not pay its zakat
give them tidings of a painful punishment. (35) The Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, [it will be said], "This is what you hoarded for yourselves, so taste what you used to hoard."
[At-Tawbah 9:34-35]
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
