Gold for personal use only, without trade: Is zakah due on it?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14737 )
Q1: I have gold for personal use only, without trade. Is zakah due on it? If the answer is yes, I am in dire need of it, as my financial situation prevents me from paying the zakah. This causes me to delay the zakah for more than a lunar year, from one year to two. What is the solution, O honorable Shaykh? Is it waived for me?
A1: If the gold reaches the nisab, zakah is obligatory on it, whether you are in need of it or not.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
