The Duration of the Hawl
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 20598 )
Q3: A retired man collects three or four months' salaries in the Arab Bank, then receives them in full, then deposits them in the National Commercial Bank, and considers the hawl to begin when he deposits them in the bank. Is this practice correct or not, and what should he do to discharge the zakah in the Sharia-compliant manner? We ask your Eminence to kindly answer the questions and inform us so that we can inform him and convince him with your answer. May Allah guide you to good, and may Allah preserve you.
A3: The hawl of wealth begins from the first time it enters a person's ownership, whether he receives it at its due time or leaves it in the bank for a period and then takes it and transfers it to another bank; because one of the conditions for the obligation of zakah is the stability of the wealth in the person's ownership. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
