Fatwa number ( 14509 )
Q: Some tribes take the name of a man from our tribe, and then this man asks us for a share so that we support him and he goes to the person who was named after him. He collects money that exceeds five thousand and more, and he goes to this man. Whoever does not pay is despised by people, and they belittle his worth, especially the committed youth, who say: “He refused this only because of his stinginess. No one listens to your call or your words.” And when I pay this amount to this man, I see that it unites his heart and makes him accept my advice. What is your opinion, O your Excellency?
A : It is prescribed for the Muslim to give from his wealth and to spend from it, especially in times of hardship. This is from the voluntary charity. Allah the Exalted said:
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Dayلَيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَنْ تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلَكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:177]
up to His saying:
gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphansوَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْيَتَامَى
[Al-Baqarah 2:177]
. It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No wealth decreases from charity.ما نقص مال من صدقة
And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has warned against stinginess with wealth and miserliness with it, saying, Mighty and Majestic:
And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for themوَلاَ يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ
[Ali 'Imran 3:180]
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
