Q: We receive, at our office for the awareness of expatriate communities, offers from some banks that deal in riba (usury or interest) to print some da'wah (calling others to Islam) booklets, on the condition that the name of this bank is placed on the booklets, so we ask Your Eminence to issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, on the possibility of accepting or rejecting this offer?
A: It is not permissible to accept such offers; because placing the names and logos of those banks on da'wah (calling others to Islam) books constitutes advertising, endorsement, and encouragement to deal with them, and taking the forbidden transactions lightly, and this is prohibited by the Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law), due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted[Al-Ma'idah 5:2] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
