The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20062 )
Q2: Does printing correct, beneficial Islamic books benefit a person after his death, and does it fall under the knowledge by which one benefits, as mentioned in the hadith?
A2: Printing beneficial books that people benefit from in their religious and worldly affairs is among the righteous deeds for which a person is rewarded in his lifetime, and its reward remains and its benefit continues for him after his death. This falls under the general meaning of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as reported in the authentic hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity, or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious child, who prays for him (for the deceased).إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: إلا من صدقة جارية، أو علم ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Sahih Muslim 1631
It was narrated by Imam Muslim in (his Sahih), al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, and Imam Ahmad, and everyone who contributes to bringing out this beneficial knowledge receives this great reward, whether he is the author, the teacher, the one who publishes it among people, the one who produces it, or the one who contributes to its printing; each according to his effort and participation in it.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
