The first, second, and third questions from fatwa number ( 15885 )
Q1: I live with my family, consisting of my father, my mother, two older sisters, and a younger brother. My older brother, who is married and has a son, also lives with us. We have gathered more than once during meals; that is, we eat together. Is this permissible, and what is its ruling?
A1: It is not permissible for a woman to mix with men who are not her mahrams and eat with them from the same vessel; because this causes temptation among them and leads to the occurrence of immorality. Therefore, the woman must veil herself and separate from foreign men, and eat alone or with women. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nur 24:31] the verse, and Allah the Exalted said:
[Al-Ahzab 33:53] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the rows of women be behind the rows of men in prayer in order to avert temptation, and in matters other than prayer it is even more so.
