Gathering at the table with one's brother's wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15885 )
Q1: I live with my family, consisting of my father, my mother, two older sisters, and a younger brother. My older brother, who is married, also lives with us, and he has a son. We have gathered more than once during meals, meaning we eat together. Is this permissible, and what is its ruling?
A1: It is not permissible for a woman to mix with men who are not her mahram (relatives one may not marry) and to eat with them from the same vessel; because this leads to temptation
between them and leads to the occurrence of immorality. Therefore, the woman must veil herself and separate from foreign men, and eat alone, or with women, or with her mahram. Allah the Exalted said:
And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private partsوَقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ
[An-Nur 24:31]
the verse, and Allah the Exalted said:
And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts.
[Al-Ahzab 33:53]
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the rows of women be behind the rows of men in prayer in order to avert fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and in matters other than prayer it is even more so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
