The Shaykh : Indeed, these vast, expansive, and immense heavens, when the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah the Exalted will fold them up like the folding of a scroll for books, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Anbya 21:104] And He the Exalted said: [Az-Zumar 39:67] As for the verse you asked about, Allah the Exalted informed that the sky will be split open, and that is by the descent of the angels, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Furqan 25:25] So it appears, and Allah knows best, that His saying: [Ar-Rahman 55:37] refers to this, and His saying: [Ar-Rahman 55:37] In any case, the verse indicates that this sky will be of this color and in this state on that great day. The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it.
يَوْمَ نَطْوِي السَّمَاءَ كَطَيِّ السِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِ كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُعِيدُهُ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا فَاعِلِينَThey have not appraised Allah with true appraisal, while the earth entirely will be [within] His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَالأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَالسَّماوَاتُ مَطْوِيَّاتٌ بِيَمِينِهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَAnd [mention] the Day when the heaven will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent.
