Fatwa number ( 13831 )
Q: Several rulings have been reported regarding the ma'mums leaving the mosque before the imam turns away from the qiblah after the two taslims, including that it is not to be done, that it is not recommended, that it is not permissible, and that it is disliked. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
do not precede me in bowing and prostration and in standing and turning (faces, i. e. In pronouncing salutation)لا تسبقوني بالركوع ولا بالسجود ولا بالانصراف
Sahih Muslim 426a
The text of the hadith indicates prohibition by analogy to overtaking the imam. We hope you will provide the definitive ruling on this matter and send an inquiry in writing to the school's address, as the answer requires urgency because it is part of the curriculum to be given to the students this year, and out of fear of giving a ruling that does not align with the issue and the Shari'ah? May Allah preserve you and keep you a reference for Islam and Muslims.

A : The meaning of turning away from the prayer is turning away from it by the taslim; therefore, the prohibition against overtaking the imam in turning away was reported. It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O people, I am your imam , so do not bow, prostrate yourselves, stand, or go away before I doأيها الناس إني إمامكم فلا تسبقوني بالركوع ولا بالسجود ولا بالقيام ولا بالانصراف
Mishkat al-Masabih 1137
It is forbidden for the ma'mum to say the taslim before his imam. As for the ma'mum turning away before the imam turns away toward the direction of the worshippers, there is nothing wrong with it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
