Entering while the imam is in the final tashahhud

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of the fatwa number ( 16053 )
Q6: If I enter the mosque and find the congregation of worshippers sitting in the final tashahhud, should I sit with them and recite the final tashahhud, and then after the imam says the taslim, I complete the prayer? Or should I wait until he says the taslim and then pray alone? What is the best course of action?
A6: If one enters while the imam is in the final tashahhud, he should join him in what remains; for it is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
When one of you comes to the Salat and (finds) the Imam is in a position, then do as the Imam is doing.إذا أتى أحدكم الصلاة والإمام على حال فليصنع كما يصنع الإمام
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 591Da'if (Darussalam)
, narrated by al-Tirmidhi , and because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith agreed upon as authentic:
When the call is made for prayer come to it walking with tranquillity, and pray what you are in time for, and complete what you have missed.إذا أتيتم الصلاة فأتوها وعليكم السكينة، فما أدركتم فصلوا وما فاتكم فأتموا
Sahih Muslim 602c
, so if one enters with the imam while he is in the tashahhud, he recites the tashahhud, and when the imam says the taslim, he stands up and makes up his prayer.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
