The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19188 )
Q 2: What is the ruling regarding listening to the places of prostration while reciting the Qur'an while I am in a car or at work? Do I prostrate, or is there a specific dhikr I can say?
A 2: Prostration of recitation is recommended for the reciter and for one who listens to the recitation of the Qur'an if he passes a verse containing a prostration, and the listener is next to the reciter with the intention
of listening, he prostrates after the reciter prostrates. This is indicated by what al-Bukhari al-Bukhari narrated in (his Sahih, vol. 2, p. 33) from Nafi' from Ibn 'Umar who said:Mishkat al-Masabih 1025 As for merely listening to the recitation from the radio while you are in a car or at work or elsewhere, or if you are far from the reciter, prostration is not prescribed for you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

God’s Messenger was reciting as-Sajda (Al-Qur’an; 32) when we were with him. He was prostrating himself and we were doing so along with him, but we were so crowded that none of us could find a place for his forehead when prostrating himself.
