The Ruling on the Prostration of Recitation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18925 )
Q: I am a student of knowledge who worksat Khartoum Hospital in Sudan, and since I am reading the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and perhaps aprostration verse may come during the recitation,I request from your eminence, while I am in the midst of diligent work, should I prostrate on the desk or what should I do? May Allah reward you with good.
A: If a person is reading the Qur'an and a verse containing a prostration comes to him, it is prescribed for him to prostrate on the ground if he is able to do so. If he is not able to do so, such as if he is riding in a car, he should gesture with his head according to his ability. If he does not prostrate, there is no blame on him; because the prostration of recitation is a recommended practice and not obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
