Fatwa number ( 14248 )
Q: I prayed 'Isha'—praise be to Allah—in congregation. After the 'Isha' prayer, while I was praying the witr, after I said the takbir and recited part of al-Fatihah, a man who had not prayed 'Isha' stood beside me. Is it better for me to recite aloud or to recite quietly?
A: You should recite aloud to the extent that the worshipper with you can hear you, whether you are praying a voluntary prayer or an obligatory prayer at night, if there is another person praying with you. If no one is praying with you, it is permissible for you to recite either quietly or aloud. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
