Fatwa number ( 20782 )
Q: There are some people who want to travel on an Air Force plane, and some of them live at the air base in Dhahran , and some in Khobar or Thuqbah or Dammam , and then the time for the Zuhr prayer arrives before the plane takes off , and they are waiting at the airport, so some of them pray Zuhr
and 'Asr combined and shortened, some of them combine them, and some of them pray only Zuhr. What is the correct answer for a case like this? Please give us a ruling, and may Allah reward you.
A: The one who lives in the same base prays Zuhr in full if its time enters before he travels, and he does not combine 'Asr with it; because he has not yet begun his journey. As for the one who lives in a town outside the base, if it is separate from the buildings of that town, then he may pray Zuhr and 'Asr combined and shortened, if the time for Zuhr enters before he travels; because at that time he has begun his journey. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
