Shortening the prayer when the traveler arrives in his hometown

Fatwa number ( 17597 )
Q: I was traveling, and while returning from my journey, I intended to combine the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers with delay at home. Is it permissible for me to shorten both prayers? I have already arrived after 'Asr.
A: When a traveler arrives in his hometown, it is not permissible for him to shorten the prayer, because the journey ends when he enters his hometown, even if the prayer became obligatory before his arrival. This is because the criterion is the state of performing the prayer, not the state of its obligation in this case. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
