The custom of some people when a relative of the deceased returns is to hold a party for him

Q: We have a custom at the Civil Defense Center in Sharurah and among some tribes, which is that when a colleague loses a relative, we, upon
his return from the condolence visit, console him and slaughter an animal for him, as he is in a state of loss. What is the ruling on this slaughter?

A: The Sunnah is to prepare food for the family of the deceased to the extent of their need, because they are occupied with the calamity, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that food be prepared for the family of Ja'far when the news of his death reached them. The food should be whatever is easily available. This is not obligatory, but rather recommended, as it falls under the category of consoling the bereaved. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
