The Ruling on Preparing Food for the Family of the Deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on preparing food for the family of the deceased?

Answer:
…They do not prepare feasts after death. No. However, if his neighbors or relatives provide food for the family of the deceased, that is prescribed. It is established that when the news of the martyrdom of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), who was killed in Sham, reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he ordered his family to prepare food for the family of Ja'far. So, if their neighbors or some of their relatives prepare food for them during the days of the calamity, there is nothing wrong with it. However, the family of the deceased should not prepare food for people, nor should they hold feasts. Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We used to consider gathering at the house of the deceased and preparing food after the burial to be part of wailing."
