The Qunut in the Friday Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 18488 )
Q 1: What is the ruling if the imam recites the qunut in the Friday prayer? Is the qunut in the Friday prayer permissible or disliked, whether in the month of Ramadan or in the other months? And although I have memorized the entire Noble Qur'an and many of the noble Prophetic hadiths, I have not found any evidence that permits or prohibits the qunut in the Friday prayer?
A 1: What is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that he recited the qunut in the Fajr prayer after raising his head from the bowing in the last unit, supplicating against the disbelievers and supplicating for the oppressed among the Muslims in Makkah . From this, the scholars derived that it is prescribed for the imam to recite the qunut in the obligatory prayers when calamities occur. As for the Friday prayer, to our knowledge, it is not narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the qunut in it. Perhaps the reason for this is that the supplication for the Muslims and the supplication against the disbelievers in the sermon is sufficient. Therefore, one should restrict oneself to what has been reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
