Combining prayers due to rain in a place where there is no congregation
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18800 )
Q 1: I, my family, my brothers, and their family members went to a farm located 10 kilometers from the town. When the time for the Maghrib prayer arrived, there was heavy rain at the farm. One of my brothers stood up and led us in combining the Maghrib and Isha prayers by offering them early, on the grounds that there was hardship in delaying the Isha prayer until its time. Please note that there is no specific mosque in this farm where the prayer is held; rather, the prayer place is inside
the house. What is the ruling on combining the Maghrib and Isha prayers in this situation, and what is the ruling on my not combining the Maghrib and Isha prayers by offering them early, and instead praying each prayer in its own time?
A 1: It is permissible to combine the Maghrib and Isha prayers in the case of rain that wets the clothes when going out to the mosque, or that creates a muddy path that prevents people from reaching the mosque, causing them harm by wading through it. As for those who are in a situation like yours, where you pray in your home because there are no neighbors with whom you can pray outside the home, the most cautious course for you is to refrain from combining the prayers, as there is no hardship. You do not have to make up what has already passed, because some scholars hold that combining is permissible for the general public when there is a valid legal excuse that permits combining for those who pray in the mosque. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
