Q: We received an inquiry from the leadership of the prisoners' camp in al-Arṭawiyyah regarding shortening and completing the prayers and the Friday prayer. They reside in tents, their number is large, and their stay is limited to three months . Villages surround them, and the nearest village is about two kilometers away. Do they complete the prayers, given that the duration is limited, or do they shorten them? Do they have to perform the Friday prayer in their camp? Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, and may Allah reward you with good?
A: If the matter is as described, they should pray the four-rak'ah prayer without shortening it, praying four rak'ahs. They must perform the Friday prayer by following others in the nearby mosques. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
