Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A questioner asks that he works in a poultry farm and that there are chicks that are infected with a contagious disease, and they must be disposed of so that they do not harm the others, knowing that slaughtering them also transmits the infection through the blood, and that separating them is burdensome and they are numerous, so he kills them? Is there anything required of him?
the path of blood, and if she is of age and it is heavy, should she kill it? Is there anything required of her?
A: We have written to His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture and Water regarding what the questioner mentioned, and His Excellency the Minister replied in letter number (37890) dated 13/5/1423 AH, stating the following: The method the Ministry follows to dispose of chickens infected with contagious or epidemic diseases, or chicks that are not fit for consumption or rearing, is to slaughter them first, then dispose of them along with the remains and waste of the farm, by deep burial and covering with quicklime, or by burning in special incinerators, depending on the circumstances and capabilities available at the site. The Ministry does not use other methods to dispose of chickens infected with epidemic or contagious diseases. Also, those who carry out these operations have sufficient preparations regarding protective equipment and disinfectants, and there are no precautions against disposing of sick chickens in this way, except that the following must be observed: 1- The workers must be trained for this purpose and under the supervision of specialists from the Ministry. 2- Special pits are prepared for burying the slaughtered chickens, with specific specifications and directions. 3- Necessary precautions are taken when using disinfectants and chemicals.
4- Caution and prudence are exercised when handling sick chickens by wearing protective equipment. 5- Security precautions are known to prevent the spread of the disease to other farms. Based on this, the Committee holds that what His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture and Water mentioned is the appropriate method that aligns with what the Sharia rules require.
