Women kissing the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19238 )
Q: There is a custom widespread in our country, which is: when a man dies, the women ask to enter and kiss him, and they call this seeking blessing from him: meaning, they bid him farewell. Likewise, when a woman dies, the men seek blessing from her, meaning they greet her . The question, O honorable Shaykh: Is this action permissible or forbidden? Please issue a ruling, may you be rewarded, may Allah reward you with good.
A: This action has no basis in the Shari'ah, and nothing has been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or from his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding it. It may lead to
forbidden or polytheistic matters. As for kissing the deceased out of love, not for seeking blessing, there is nothing wrong with that; because it is established that Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) kissed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between his eyes after his death. However, it is not permissible for a woman to do so except with her mahram among men, and it is not permissible for men to do so with women unless they are their mahrams. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
