If one errs and takes from his beard, what is the ruling?

Fatwa number ( 19994 )
Q: I am a young man from Yemen residing in Saudi Arabia . I strive to keep myself on the straight path, and I have let my beard grow. On one occasion, I went to the barber to have my head hair cut. While the barber was cutting my head hair, the electric clipper accidentally took some of the hair from my beard. I did not make a fuss with the barber because he would not be able to restore the hair to its previous state. I asked him to trim my beard to the extent that the clipper had taken from it. When one of the brothers in Allah saw me, he advised me in a harsh manner that caused me deep hurt in my heart. He said to me: "Have you fallen back from your religion?" when he saw that I had trimmed my beard. The question is: Am I truly an apostate when I shave or trim my beard? The other question is: Who is more sinful and has committed the greater error, I by trimming my beard, or the brother in Allah when he said to me: "Have you fallen back in your religion?" to the point that I have become like an apostate from his religion?
A: Shaving the beard and taking from it is forbidden; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded letting it grow, and prohibited exposing it to shaving or cutting; due to the imitation of the polytheists in that, and the disfigurement and deficiency in its removal. However, one who shaves his beard is not judged to be a disbeliever, but rather he is a disobedient sinner who must
repent to Allah and let his beard grow. Your brother in Allah who advised you erred in his expression, so may Allah forgive us, you, him, and the Muslims. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
