Ruling on trimming the beard

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message is from a listener who says: Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz! Your brother in Allah, Shalahub ibn Hasan. The first question: I trim the length of my beard, and this hair that I trim bothers me if I leave it, and I cannot leave it. What is the ruling? May Allah guide you.
Answer: The apparent Sunnah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that it is not permissible, even if it becomes long. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Cut your mustaches short and let your beards grow, and be distinct from the polytheists.قصوا الشوارب وأعفوا اللحى، خالفوا المشركين
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.جزوا الشوارب وأرخوا اللحى، خالفوا المجوس
Sahih Muslim 260
So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded to shave the mustache and cut it, and commanded to let the beard grow, complete it, and let it hang down. It is obligatory for you, O questioner, to fear Allah and to avoid this action, and to keep your beard and let it grow in obedience to Allah and His Messenger, holding fast to His legislation, and out of fear of imitating those who opposed this, such as the Zoroastrians and other polytheists, and the sinners. This is what is obligatory for you. And whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him, and He will make matters easy for him. Yes.
