Q: What is haram and what is halal in our religion, Islam ?
A: Halal and haram are two rulings of the Shari'ah that are received from the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and from the Sunnah of His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The believer must hold with firm conviction that what Allah has forbidden is forbidden and what He has permitted is permissible. This belief is a cause for entering Paradise, as stated in the hadith: . Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to declare something permissible or forbidden on his own initiative, for that is among the greatest of harams. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-A'raf 7:33] Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nahl 16:116] .
The Muslims have agreed that whoever declares permissible a haram whose prohibition is known from the religion by necessity, such as one who declares permissible zina, riba, or khamr, has committed kufr and apostasy from the religion of Islam. Likewise, whoever declares forbidden a halal whose permissibility is known from the religion by necessity, such as one who declares forbidden meat or bread or the like, has contradicted the Shari'ah of Allah and has apostatized from the religion of Islam. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

أن رجلاً سأل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: أرأيت إن أحللت الحلال وحرمت الحرام أأدخل الجنة؟ قال: نعمSay, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know."

Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed.
The Muslims have agreed that whoever declares permissible a haram whose prohibition is known from the religion by necessity, such as one who declares permissible zina, riba, or khamr, has committed kufr and apostasy from the religion of Islam.
