The Khawarij and the Shi'ah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q15: Can you clarify for us the two sects of the Khawarij and the Shi'ah?
A15: The Khawarij: They are the first to separate from the congregation of the Muslims among the people of innovation who have strayed. They declare 'Uthman and 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) disbelievers, and they prioritize this over all obedience. They also declare the two arbitrators disbelievers, as well as everyone who accepted arbitration. They declare those who commit major sins disbelievers, and they hold that one must rebel against the imam if he contradicts a right that is obligatory in the Sunnah. They are divided into several sects. We advise you to review the book (Al-Firaq Bi al-Firaq) by al-Baghdadi, (Al-Milal wa al-Nihal) by al-Shahrastani, and (Majmu' Fatawa Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah). The school of the Imami Shi'ah: It is an innovated school in Islam that relies on exaggeration regarding the imams of the People of the House, as they believe in the infallibility of twelve imams, the last of whom they describe as the Expected One, claiming that he has hidden himself from view and remains alive. We advise you to review the book (Al-Khatut al-'Ariḍah) by Muḥibb al-Din al-Khatib, (Mukhtasar al-Tuhfah al-Isna' Ashariyyah), and (Minhaj al-Sunnah) by Shaykh
al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, for in these references there is an explanation of their condition and many of their innovations.
