Raising the hands at the additional takbirs in the prayer of the two festivals
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first and second questions of the fatwa number ( 18679 )
Q 1, 2: We have seen many differences in some books regarding raising
the hands at the additional takbirs in the prayer of the two festivals, so what is the correct, established ruling ? And the supplication in the witr prayer has been reported: (O Allah, guide me among those You have guided...) So are the hands raised at this supplication or not? What is established from the Lawgiver, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him?
A 1, 2: Raising the hands at the takbir of entering prayer and the additional takbirs in the prayers of the two festivals and the funeral prayer is a recommended practice (sunnah), and it is not obligatory. So whoever does it receives the reward, and whoever leaves it has done nothing wrong and there is no blame, but the recommended practice should be made clear to him without compulsion. Likewise, raising the hands at the supplication of qunut is a recommended practice (sunnah); because the original rule is to raise the hands in supplication, except in the places where the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated and did not raise his hands. These are exceptions, such as the supplication in the final tashahhud in prayer, the supplication after the obligatory prayer, and the supplication in the Friday sermon other than in the case of seeking rain. However, such issues should not be a cause of disagreement and division among the brothers and students of knowledge; because the matter in them is easy, and there is no defect in the religion that necessitates hostility and division resulting from leaving or doing them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
