Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 15420 )
Q 4: Does one raise the hands when the worshipper stands for the second rak'ah, as he raises them for the takbir of ihram, or not?
A 4: Raising the hands at the takbir in prayer is prescribed in four
only in the following places: at the takbir of entering ihram, at the ruku', when rising from the ruku', and when standing up from the first tashahhud, according to the correct view. This is based on the report fromIbn 'Umar(may Allah be pleased with them both):
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to raise his hands parallel to his shoulders when he started the prayer (by saying Allahu Akbar), when he uttered the Takbir to bow and when he raised his head from the Ruku' (bowing posture).أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يرفع يديه حذو منكبيه إذا افتتح الصلاة وإذا كبر للركوع وإذا رفع رأسه من الركوع
Bulugh al-Maram 2:155
agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And from'Ali ibn Abi Talib(may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
It was narrated from ‘Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up to offer the prescribed prayer, he would say Allahu Akbar and raise his hands to shoulder height; he did the same when he finished reciting and wanted to bow, and he did it when he raised his head from bowing. He did not raise his hands when sitting in any part of his prayer, but when he stood up following the two prostrations, he raised his hands in the same manner and said Allahu Akbar.
Musnad Ahmad 717Hasan (Darussalam)
It was narrated byAhmadand Abu Dawudand al-Tirmidhi,and he graded it as authentic. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
