Slaughtering some animals on 'Id al-Fitr in honor of the guests who visit the one who slaughters those animals

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20673 )
Q: Regarding what people have become accustomed to slaughtering from livestock on 'Id al-Fitr; to display joy, and to honor their guests who return to visit them, as well as their visiting each other during the 'Id; to maintain family ties, and to bring happiness to
their Muslim neighbors and brothers, and congratulating each other on this occasion by saying: (May Allah accept from us and from you) and (May you be among those who celebrate and those who succeed) and (May your 'Id be blessed) and similar expressions of congratulation; because it has become apparent that some say: that all of this is from religious innovations, and indeed he refrains from visiting his relatives and acquaintances and receiving them during the 'Id; because he considers all of that to be from religious innovations, and the aforementioned person has requested a written fatwa from your eminence in this matter so that everyone may act upon it, so I hope you will graciously review and issue a fatwa to the aforementioned person with what you see fit.

A: There is nothing wrong with slaughtering some animals on 'Id al-Fitr in honor of the guests who visit the one who slaughters those animals, but only to the extent that is sufficient for the visitor, without extravagance or boasting in that. As for Muslims congratulating each other on the 'Id with expressions like those mentioned in the question, there is nothing wrong with that; because it contains the supplication of a Muslim brother for his brother that his deeds be accepted, that he be granted a long life, and that he be happy, and there is no harm in that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
