Attending, Listening to, and Paying Attention to the Friday Sermon

Fatwa No. ( 20596 )
Q: I would like to submit to your Excellency that the congregation of the Al-Iskan Mosque in Dammam
has asked me to raise this question to your Eminence regarding their weekly suffering from the mischief of teenagers during the Friday sermon on the upper floor, which causes commotion and disturbance. This, in turn, distracts them from listening to and benefiting from the Friday sermon, which leads some of the mosque congregation to hold them accountable and discipline them. This may force the one holding them accountable to speak during the sermon. I hope your Excellency will be kind enough to answer so that I may inform the mosque congregation of the legal ruling.
A: There is no doubt that it is obligatory for those present to listen to and pay attention to the Friday sermon, and it is forbidden to speak during the sermon except for the one whom the preacher addresses or whom the preacher addresses. The mischief of some ignorant people during the sermon mentioned in the question must be denounced and forbidden by the preacher. If they do not comply, they must be prevented from going up to this floor to avert their harm. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
