The Basmala and Seeking Refuge in Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q 5: Is it obligatory for the one praying to seek refuge and recite the Basmala in every rak'ah for al-Fatihah and for the surah after it, or is seeking refuge and reciting the Basmala in the first rak'ah sufficient?
A 5: As for seeking refuge, it is a recommended practice to recite it in the first rak'ah of the prayer before al-Fatihah, and it is not repeated in every rak'ah, because there is no silence between the two recitations; rather, the remembrance of Allah intervenes between them. Thus, it is like a single recitation if praise of Allah or
glorification or the declaration of the oneness of Allah or sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or the like intervenes. As for the Basmala, it is prescribed in every rak'ah of the prayer before al-Fatihah, and before every surah except Surat al-Bara'ah, but it is not recited aloud in the prayers where recitation is loud, as indicated by the authentic Sunnah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
