Q: The noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a person is among the people of Paradise, or among the people of the Fire, we see in all cases that the body is eaten by worms and consumed by the earth. And the hadith of our noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) states that Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the prophets. Is this specific to the prophets? If a person is among the people of Paradise, does the earth consume his body, or does it remain as it is and he enjoys the breeze of Paradise? We ask for clarification on this.
A: It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan an-Nasa'i 2070Sahih (Darussalam) This is the wording of al-Bukhari. One of the principles of the people of the Sunnah and the community is that bliss and punishment are for the soul, and the body follows it in the barzakh (the interval between death and resurrection). The bestowal of bliss and the infliction of punishment reach the person whether his body remains or not. We do not know the manner of this, because it is among the unseen matters that have not been revealed to us. Therefore, we must believe in this, based on the scriptural evidence from the Book and the Sunnah and the consensus of the Ummah regarding it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q: The noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And the grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise, or a pit from the pits of the Fire
والقبر إما روضة من رياض الجنة، وإما حفرة من حفر النارA: It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When one of you dies he is shown his place morning and evening. If he is one of the people of paradise them he is one of the people of Paradise, and if he is one of the people of Hell, then he is one of the people of Hell, until Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, raises him up on the Day of Resurrection.
إن أحدكم إذا مات عُرض عليه مقعده بالغداة والعشي، إن كان من أهل الجنة فمن أهل الجنة، وإن كان من أهل النار، فيقال: هذا مقعدك حتى يبعثك الله إلى القيامة
