Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 12087 )
Q 1: Are the Asha'irah among the people of the Sunnah and the community?
A 1: The people of the Sunnah and the community are: those who held fast to the Book of Allah the Exalted and the Sunnah of their Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in their beliefs and the rest of the principles of their religion, and did not oppose their texts with reason or desire, and adhered to what the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were upon regarding the pillars of faith and the pillars of Islam, so they became the imams of guidance and the callers to good and success; such as al-Hasan al-Basri and Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib and Mujahid and Abu Hanifah and Malik and al-Shafi'i and al-Awza'i and Ahmad and al-Bukhari and whoever followed their path and adopted their methodology in belief and argumentation. The Asha'irah are: the followers of Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari and the supporters of his school in belief and argumentation, and he and those who followed him are the closest of the sects to the people of the Sunnah and the community, so they are praised for what they agreed with the people of the Sunnah and the community upon, and they are in error in what they opposed them in, and among his followers are Abu Bakr al-Baqillani and al-Bayhaqi and Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi and Abu Zakariyya Yahya al-Nawawi and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani and the like of them who interpreted the texts of the attributes of Allah the Exalted, or deferred regarding their original meaning, and in our view they are among the great scholars of the Muslims by whom Allah benefited the community, so may Allah have mercy on them and reward them with good. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
