Raising and Castrating Forbidden Animals

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 25251 )
Q 1: I am a student in the final year of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and we often perform surgical operations on dogs and cats, and sometimes these operations are for the treatment of some malignant tumors, or for other reasons, so we resort to operations. But what caught my attention these days—and unfortunately—is that some people imitate the West, so you see one of them coming
with a dog and saying: "Doctor, I want you to perform an operation for castration or removal of the uterus or ovaries or cutting the tail..etc., and there is no need for this operation, but only for the desire of the owner of the cat or dog, and of course many of these people do not use the dog for guarding, but it is inside the house. And the question: What is the ruling of the Islamic religion in such operations that have no necessity other than the desire of the animal's owner?

A 1: First: It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever keep s dog except a dog for hunting, farming or herding livestock, on e Qurat will be deducted from his good deeds each day.من اتخذ كلبًا إلا كلب صيد أو زرع أو ماشية انتقص من أجره كل يوم قيراط
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4289Sahih (Darussalam)
It was narrated by the two Shaykhs in their (Sahihayn), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who kept a dog (other than that) which is indispensable for watching the field or the animals would lose one qirat out of his deeds every day.من اقتنى كلبًا لا يغني عنه زرعًا ولا ضرعًا نقص من عمله كل يوم قيراط
Sahih Muslim 1576a
It is agreed upon as authentic. And by these texts and others, it is known that what some Muslims have done in keeping dogs for other than one of the three justifications mentioned by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they do so only to imitate the disbelievers, or merely for amusement and play—that it is forbidden, and it is not permissible in any way. Second: It is obligatory that the dealing with permissible animals in their treatment and feeding be according to the need, and that the expenditure on them not be increased to the extent of extravagance and waste, for that is the work of the brothers of the devils, as Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful.إِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوا إِخْوَانَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ لِرَبِّهِ كَفُورًا
[Al-Isra 17:27]
,
and what was mentioned in the question of some people resorting to something of these animals and performing operations on them that the need does not call for, but they are closer to play and frivolity—there is no doubt that it is forbidden, because it is a change of the creation of Allah, or a likening to the animal, and this is the work of the devil, as Allah the Exalted said about him:
(118) Whom Allah has cursed. For he had said, "I will surely take from among Your servants a specific portion. (119) And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah.
[An-Nisa 4:118-119]
the verse, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said when a donkey that had been branded on its face was brought to him:
Allah has cursed one who has cauterised itلعن الله الذي وسمه
Sahih Muslim 2117
It was narrated by Muslim in his (Sahih), in addition to the fact that these operations are waste and extravagance and spending money in other than its proper place, and what is fitting for the state of the Muslim is economy in spending money and using permissible things, and that the world not be the greatest of his concerns and the end of his hope, Allah the Exalted said in the description of His righteous servants:
And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderateوَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَامًا
[Al-Furqan 25:67]

This is in the permissible matters, so how about other than them?! And the person is accountable on the Day of Resurrection for every dirham he obtained; from where he earned it, and in what he spent it? And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
