Killing chickens by piling them on top of one another and grinding them while alive to be used as feed for chickens

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19689 )
Q 1: In the agricultural project of al-Kharj , the following occurs: Laying hens that have reached the end of their productive lifespan for egg production are collected in a large box, numbering between (2500 - 3000) hens, and are piled on top of one another until the majority die due to the pressure of being piled up. Upon reaching a machine containing grinders, the remaining live chickens are killed, then ground, and the juice containing blood and ground meat is extracted. This is mixed with beans, calcium, and corn to produce feed that is given to chickens
to produce good eggs, as they say. This process takes place approximately every (14) months. The project also purchases or requests slaughterhouse waste, such as offal, heads, and intestines, to grind them as well and utilize them as feed. This project exports these foods to other projects in this manner. The question is: Is this action permissible? Is it permissible to work in this project for one who knows about this method? What is obligatory upon him? And is it permissible to eat the chicken or its eggs if it is fed with this feed?
A 1 : The killing of chickens by the method described in the question is an impermissible method and is forbidden by the Shari'ah. It also involves torturing the animal, whereas the pure Shari'ah has commanded us to be gentle with animals and not to harm them, even when slaughtering them according to the lawful method. Imam Muslim narrated in his (Sahih) from Shaddad ibn Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1409Sahih (Darussalam) . Therefore, the killing of chickens by the method described and using this dead chicken as feed for live chickens is a forbidden act. The one who does it is sinful and deserving of the punishment and retribution of Allah, if he does not repent from this evil deed of his. He is also a traitor to the trust placed in him and a deceiver in what Allah has made him responsible for. A severe warning has been reported regarding this, as narrated by al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him): that 'Ubayd Allah ibn
Ziyad returned Ma'qil ibn Yasar in the illness from which he died, and he said to Ma'qil : "I am telling you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:Sahih al-Bukhari 7150 It is agreed upon, and this is the wording of al-Bukhari , and in another wording of the Imam Ahmad in his (Musnad) (Vol. 1, p. 25): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . This chicken, whose soul departed in a non-Shari'ah manner, is considered carrion; it is ritually impure, its meat is not to be eaten, no benefit is to be derived from it, and it is not permissible to use it as feed for live chickens or other animals, even if mixed with what is permissible by the Shari'ah. Accordingly, it is not permissible to eat the chicken that grew from this, nor its eggs; because that which is produced from something ritually impure, or whose predominant diet is impurities, is itself ritually impure. Based on the foregoing: it is forbidden to work in this project by directly killing the chickens' souls in the manner described, or by directly providing this dead chicken as feed for live chickens after it is ground and mixed with beans, corn, and the like. Whoever works in this project and is aware of this method must advise those in charge of this project with gentleness and softness, and clarify the Shari'ah ruling in
it; perhaps they will repent to Allah with sincere repentance and abandon this evil deed of theirs. If they do not return to the right path, let them report their case to the competent authority to take action against them, so that his conscience is clear and he does not become a partner with them in the sin. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
