Fatwa No. ( 5035 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the President General from the questioner, the head of the courts of al-Baha , registered with the Department of Scientific Research under number (1389) on 12/7/1402 AH. The questioner asked one question, the text of which is as follows: The person named (K. M. Z) from the village of Shubriqa reported that monkeys have caused damage to his farms and the farms of other citizens, and they have become unable to benefit from their farms, which contain many different trees. And
a committee was formed from the Emirate, the Municipality, and the Health and Agriculture Departments to provide appropriate solutions for getting rid of the monkeys. They proposed three solutions: 1. Eliminating this problem through forest rangers who belong to the Ministry of Agriculture, to protect these farms from monkey attacks, by analogy with locust control. 2. Eliminating them using poisons such as (zinc phosphide) in any type of monkey food. Implementing this method requires the presence of a technician to place this substance in the places where monkeys frequent, and to monitor it so that other animals are not harmed. 3. Granting permission to forest rangers to use (shotguns) to protect the farms during the times when monkeys appear, or assigning the police to send a soldier to monitor the appearance of monkeys and shoot them. Therefore, we hope you will review this and give your opinion on it. May Allah preserve you.
After the Committee’s study, it issued a fatwa that there is no harm in killing the harmful ones in a way that does not extend their harm to other animals. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
