Q 3: Are animals held accountable on the Day of Resurrection, and is it permissible to raise some of them
A 3: First: The resurrection of animals on the Day of Resurrection is a truth beyond doubt, and retribution is taken from some of them for others, as indicated by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And when the wild beasts are gatheredوَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ
[At-Takwir 81:5]
, and the athar and authentic hadiths have come regarding this, including: what is in (Sahih Muslim), from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), marfu':
“Rights will certainly be restored to those entitled to them on the Day of Resurrection, (to the point that) even the hornless sheep will lay claim upon the horned one.”لتؤدن الحقوق إلى أهلها يوم القيامة، حتى يقاد للشاة الجلحاء من الشاة القرناء
Sahih Muslim 2582
, and what Imam Ahmad narrated with a sound chain from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Creation will take retribution from one another, until the hornless from the horned, and even the ant from the antيقتص الخلق بعضهم من بعض، حتى الجماء من القرناء، وحتى الذرَّة من الذرَّة
. Second: There is no harm in raising permissible animals in dwellings, provided they are cared for in terms of feeding and watering. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
