Fatwa number ( 21847 )
Q: In Pakistan there is a famous city called ( Pakpattan ), and it has a shrine for a Sufi, Farid al-Din Mas'ud , who died in the year 664 AH. The shrine has two doors: one door remains open all year for visitors, and another door is opened for only five days a year, starting from the 5th of Muharram, on the occasion of an annual festival held at the shrine. They call this door (the Door of Paradise), and they claim that the Sufi Nizam al-Din Awliya saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a vision, advising him that this door is the Door of Paradise, and that whoever passes through it enters Paradise. Therefore, every year, hundreds of thousands of people pass through it with this belief. This year, more than 40 people lost their lives while passing through it
due to the crowd. What is the ruling in Islam regarding this door? What is the ruling on one who believes that it is the Door of Paradise? What is the ruling on passing through this door? I ask you, Your Excellency, to kindly provide an answer at the earliest opportunity. May Allah reward you with good and guide you to what He loves and is pleased with.

A : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade building over graves and ordered the demolition of what was built over them, because that is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah). This mentioned shrine must be demolished by whoever is able to do so, and it is not permissible to visit it for the sake of seeking blessing from it or asking for needs from it, because that is major shirk. All the propaganda mentioned around it is false propaganda and invalid superstitions. We ask Allah for well-being and safety. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
