Exaggeration in Praising the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 17248 )
Q3: What is the ruling on exaggerating in praise of the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him -? And what is Your Eminence’s opinion of the statement of the one who says: “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the healer of hearts and their medicine, the health of bodies and their cure, and the light of eyes and their clarity,” while believing that to be the case?
A3 : This statement mentioned regarding the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - contains exaggeration and over-praising, and the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - prohibited that by saying:
Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians praised the son of Maryلا تطروني كما أطرت النصارى ابن مريم
Sahih al-Bukhari 3445
; and that is because it makes the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - heal bodies and cure from diseases, and this is exclusive to Allah alone, as al-Khalil (peace be upon him) said:
And when I am ill, it is He who cures meوَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:80]
, so believing that the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him -
heals diseases is shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions and grant them peace.
