Is it true that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was the first of Allah’s creation among humans?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Is it true that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was the first of Allah’s creation among humans? And is it true what is said about the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)?
"If Satan had seen the gleam of his light *** in Adam’s face, he would have been the first to prostrate."
This is the first time I have heard this misguidance. The questioner said: This is what I heard from the reciters; what is the ruling on this recitation and praise?
As for the first question, the answer is: It is not true that the Messenger (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) was the first of what Allah created among humans; because this is among the unseen matters in which it is not permissible for a Muslim to speak based on conjecture; because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says in His Book:
Indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all
[Yunus 10:36]
, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) says:
Beware of Zann (suspicion), for indeed Zann is the falsest of speech.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1988Sahih (Darussalam)
. So if a person says: Allah (Mighty and Majestic) first created—what is reported is not the person Muhammad, but as they claim—He created the light of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), we say: Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants.
[Al-Kahf 18:51]
; so how does this claimant who slanders the unseen know that the Messenger (peace be upon him) was the first of what Allah created, His light? He will say: The famous hadith:
O Jabir, the first thing Allah created was the light of your Prophet.
. We say: This hadith has no basis in the six famous mother books, nor in the sixty known among the people of hadith, nor in any other of the hundreds of books. So this hadith has no basis except in the minds of the ignorant among those who have made praising the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) with truth and falsehood a profession from which they earn their living.
So it is not permissible—according to many scholars—it is not permissible to establish a belief with a valid hadith; for they stipulate—these scholars—stipulate for establishing a belief that the hadith be mass-transmitted (mutawatir); it is not sufficient for it to be merely valid, meaning even if it has two or three chains, it must have come from twenty chains; meaning twenty Companions, so that the belief is established by that hadith. So although we do not adopt this opinion because we do not distinguish between what came to us from the Messenger (peace be upon him) regarding belief and what came from him regarding rulings, for all of that must be followed and submitted to, but we remind that many scholars stipulated, or when they stipulated mass-transmission in the hadith intended to establish a belief, they did not stipulate that except out of concern that the Muslim might believe in something in which some of the narrators may have erred.
So unfortunately, we find that the masses of people today believe in beliefs that are based on weak hadiths, or even fabricated hadiths like this hadith:
The first thing Allah created was the light of your Prophet, O Jabir
; therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to believe in such a belief because it is not found in any of the valid hadiths.
As for the verse mentioned, there is no doubt that it is misguidance, and it is not permissible to recite it, let alone praise the Messenger (peace be upon him) with it; because your praise of a man with falsehood is actually a criticism of him, whether this reciter intends it or not, because if you praise a person with what is not in him, it is as if you mean that he does not possess the true praises that exist in him, so that we could praise him with them; therefore, we fabricate things from ourselves to praise him with. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is not like that; for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) chose him for his prophethood and messengership and endowed him with perfect character, and He said:
And indeed, you are of a great moral character
. So he (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) is not in need of being praised with such falsehoods; especially since in the valid Sunnah there is a portion that is mass-transmitted, and a portion less than that—and all of it is valid—by which the Muslim can praise the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) with all of it.
As for coming to such false praise, this is exaggeration in religion, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has warned us by His warning of the People of the Book against exaggeration in religion, and He said:
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth.
[An-Nisa 4:171]
. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) directed this same meaning to us—us, the Muslims—directly, and that was when he was near Mina and ordered Abdullah ibn Abbas to pick up pebbles for him, and indicated that they should be small pebbles the size of a wheat grain, and he said:
like this, and beware of exaggeration in religion; for indeed, those before you were destroyed by their exaggeration in their religion.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 16:460
. So this exaggeration in religion is not permissible absolutely, and especially what is related to belief and unseen matters, like this claim that this reciter claimed.
If Satan had seen the gleam of his light *** in Adam’s face, he would have been the first to prostrate.
This is, meaning, from the words of a poet whom the misguided follow.
So such recitation is not permissible absolutely, because the speech and utterance of it is not permissible because it is false; and therefore the Messenger (peace be upon him) warned the Muslims not to be carried away in praising the Messenger (peace be upon him), even within the limits of reality, fearing that it would lead them to such false speech, and he said (peace be upon him):
Do not extol me as the Christians extolled [Jesus] the son of Mary. I am merely a servant,’ so say: '[He is] Allah’s servant and His Messenger.’
Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 329Sahih (Zubair `Aliza'i)
.
Do not praise me لا تطروني
Meaning: Do not praise me.
as the Christians praised Jesus, son of Mary.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:107
.
And on this occasion, it must be reminded that this hadith does not mean, as some commentators mention,
Do not praise me لا تطروني
meaning do not exaggerate in praising me; no, rather, do not praise me absolutely; because he is not in need of being praised; and that is because the Christians went astray and reached the point of making Jesus the son of Allah because they opened the door for themselves to praise Jesus (peace be upon him). And we all know that most of the fire comes from the smallest sparks. So Satan, in his cunning toward the children of Adam, does not surprise them with great calamities and major matters; because that would alert his enemy, the human, so he would not fall in with Iblis. Rather, he comes to him step by step. So, to block the means, he (peace be upon him) said:
Do not praise me لا تطروني
Do not praise me absolutely,
Do not praise me as the Christians praised 'Eesa ibn Maryam عليه السلام. I am no more than a slave
Musnad Ahmad 164Sahih (Darussalam)
it is sufficient for you to say: The servant of Allah and His Messenger.
And the evidence for what I said is that this hadith was included by the scholars of hadith, among them Imam al-Tirmidhi in his book "Al-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah," where he included it under the chapter "The Humility of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)." So if Imam al-Tirmidhi understood this hadith:
Do not praise me لا تطروني
meaning do not exaggerate in praising me, this meaning would not connect with the chapter; that is, the hadith would not be a heading for the chapter; because this does not indicate humility. It is obligatory for any person to say to people: Do not praise me with falsehood. This is not humility. But humility is when the hadith is understood on its apparent meaning: Do not praise me absolutely. This is humility. Why, O Messenger of Allah, when you are worthy of being praised? Because opening this door may lead you to falling into what the Christians fell into of associating partners with Allah. And this is actually observed today among Muslims. And this is the verse of poetry before you now, from many, many verses of the poem of al-Busiri and others.
For from your generosity are the world and its harms *** And from your knowledge is the knowledge of the Tablet and the Pen.
This is praise, but this is disbelief; because the Messenger (peace be upon him) heard the slave girl in his time saying:
And among us is a Prophet who knows what is in tomorrow.
So he said:
None has the knowledge of the Unseen but Allah.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7380
. So how would it be if the Messenger (peace be upon him) heard al-Busiri saying:
"And from your knowledge is the knowledge of the Tablet and the Pen"?
There is no doubt this is misguidance that the Messenger (peace be upon him) would not approve of, because it contradicts the Book, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Ummah.
So cutting off the root of these exaggerations is that the Muslim does not open the door of praise, especially with these songs, and is content with reading what is established in the biography of the Messenger (peace be upon him) of his character, his miracles, and his manners by which these hearts were opened, which were blind hearts.
