Decorating the mosque minaret with the decorations of Christian churches

Fatwa number ( 20549 )
Q: The first point is that last year, at this Islamic center, they put up the phrase "Allahu Akbar" on the minaret during Ramadan, and after the end of Christmas, they decorated it with the lights used for the celebration of Jesus (peace be upon him). They also decorated the front of the mosque with the same lights. I objected to this and told them: This is imitating the disbelievers, and it is not permissible to use them in the mosque or in the homes of Muslims. They said: When the Shaykh returns from his trip, we will seek his ruling. I said: There is no need for his ruling; because the matter is very clear. The important thing is that no one listened to me. So what happened is that as soon as the Shaykh arrived, I told him: What is your opinion about what they did in your absence? He said: By Allah, this is an analogy (qiyas). I said: But this is imitating the disbelievers. He said: You should consider that years ago they used to put up lights and trees in homes and on the streets, and now they do not. I said again: Yes, this is true, they removed them from the streets; because in many homes the lights are still there, and now they have brought them into the mosque. This is not permissible.
The main point of my question, O honorable scholars, is a matter that worries me very much, which is that Ramadan this year falls mostly in the month in which Christmas is celebrated, and many young people leave fasting in order to celebrate this. And a matter that worries me even more is that next year, the day of Christmas will almost coincide with the blessed 'Id al-Fitr. Please write what guidance this country needs in this matter, due to the great ignorance of the Muslim children who are melting into the society day by day. An example of this is: three weeks ago, we held a competition for memorizing the Qur'an for the Night of Decree, and the number of people interested in the matter was about 30 students, out of 520 students, both boys and girls. And this is because we told them: There are prizes in the Night of Decree. Among these people, some do not even memorize Surat al-Fatihah. One person came to me and said to me: In my life, I have never heard this in my house, and I know his father, and he is a Muslim. Give us a ruling, may Allah benefit you. And the second matter is: inside the mosque, which accommodates 850 people, they placed four chairs inside, and two chairs at the entrance, and these chairs are like the ones I used to sit on in the churches before I became a Muslim. Give us a ruling on this, and may Allah reward you with the best reward.

A: It is not permissible to imitate the disbelievers in their festivals, their churches, and other things; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who copies any people is one of them.من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4031Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
, so it is obligatory for you all to be cautious of that and to advise anyone you see imitating them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
