The forty-fourth question from Fatwa number ( 12087 )
Q 44: What is the ruling on working in the field of legal advocacy in a country governed by law, even if the law in some of its parts does not contradict the Shari'ah; especially in matters based on custom or issues of governments?
A 44: If engaging in legal advocacy is for the sake of establishing truth and refuting falsehood according to the Shari'ah, returning rights to their owners, and supporting the oppressed, then it is prescribed; because of the cooperation in righteousness and piety involved in that. Otherwise, it is not permissible because of the cooperation in sin and transgression involved in it. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:2] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
