Do the polytheists love Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15842 )
Q: Allah the Exalted said:
And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah.وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْدَادًا يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللَّهِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:165]
Does this mean that the polytheists used to love Allah
?

A: The polytheists used to worship Allah, but they associated others with Him, so they loved Allah and loved others with Him, and they called upon Allah and called upon others with Him, namely the equals and counterparts. In times of hardship, they would be sincere in their worship of Allah, unlike the polytheists of this age, who associate others with Him in both ease and hardship. Allah the Exalted said:
And when they board a ship, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, at once they associate others with Himفَإِذَا رَكِبُوا فِي الْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ
[Al-'Ankabut 29:65]

And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
