Slaughter of the Chicken with Hot Water
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 3290 )
Q: In the year 1398 AH, in the fifth month, we heard a shaykh speaking on the radio on the Saudi Arabian broadcast. Among the things he said was that he had visited the European countries, specifically France , and went to the chicken shops where he found the workers gathering the chickens, which were alive, in a room and then pouring hot water over them until they died . Then they put them in bags and exported them to the Arab countries, without slaughtering them in the Islamic manner. The shaykh declared it forbidden, and many people say that it was slaughtered in the Islamic manner. Since the day we heard this news, we have not bought it or eaten it up to the present time. We ask for guidance on this matter.
A: Slaughter in the manner described is not lawful, and it is not permissible to eat what is slaughtered in this manner; because it is in the ruling of carrion, which Allah has forbidden in His saying, Exalted is He:[Al-Ma'idah 5:3] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
