Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15888 )
Q1: I ask about a substance called henna, which men use on the white hair of their heads and beards until it turns red, and women use on the white hair of their heads, and some use it as adornment on the hands and feet of both women and men. Is this a correct method or an incorrect one?
A1: It is recommended for women and men to change the color of grey hair to a color other than black, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Whether one changes it with henna or with other colors other than black. As for dyeing with henna for the sake of adornment, it is a characteristic of women and is not permissible for men; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1904Sahih (Darussalam) . As for using henna by applying it to parts of the body for the treatment of illness, if there is benefit in it, it is permissible for men and women? Based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 3874Da'if (Al-Albani) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
