Ruling on Changing the White Hair of the Head and Mustache with Henna

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on applying henna to a head that has white hair?

Answer:
The Sunnah is to change the color of the head and beard when one goes gray. The Sunnah is to change it, but not with black; rather, with yellow, red, or a color between black and red. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the head and beard of Abu Quhafah, the father of al-Idris, as white as a thaghamah, he said:
Change this gray hairغيروا هذا الشيب
, meaning: both the head and the beard,
and avoid blackواجتنبوا السواد
.
Q: And the mustache?
A: It is the same; treat it as you treat the beard.
