From fatwa number ( 16250 )
Q1: There is a father who asks his son to distance himself from the Islamic awakening movement, and that son is adhering to that movement, as long as he is proceeding in accordance with the Shari'ah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Does the son commit a sin or disobedience if he refuses his father's request? With your Excellency's knowledge that the father believes the Islamic awakening and its individuals are in misguidance, and that it is merely a fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) coming from outside?
A1: The young Muslim should seek beneficial knowledge from reliable scholars, adhere to the Sunnah, and be with the Muslim community following the methodology of the Salaf (the earliest generations), and distance himself from suspicious and chaotic
pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah) currents, be dutiful to his parents and obey them in other than disobedience to Allah, and be kind to his relatives and Muslim brothers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
