Fatwa No. ( 17451 )
Q: I am a young man from the city of Algeria , cultured and fond of seeking knowledge. My love for seeking knowledge led me to correspond with some Christian radio stations. After long correspondence with them and the gifts I receive from them every week, I immersed myself in their religion and became a Christian. I made several Christian friends abroad in: Germany , France , Sweden , Switzerland , and especially America . I became convinced of that religion and became a Christian in the truest sense. I spread that religion to
several friends, and they became like me, corresponding with those radio stations and individuals. One day, I came across an Islamic magazine discussing Islam and Christianity, so I returned to my original faith and divorced Christianity three times. This is a brief summary—my father—of my immersion in Christianity. I wanted, through my correspondence with you, to understand some matters, which are: What should I do with the gifts that are with me? Will Allah forgive me? I swear by Allah that I am remorseful for what I did, especially since some of the imams among us told me: There is no repentance for you; you are an apostate. I have been living in a turmoil that only Allah knows. I fast more and stand in night prayer, and my life has become miserable because I fear that Allah will punish me and I will die a disbeliever.
A: Praise be to Allah who guided you to repent from this apostasy. We ask Allah for steadfastness in Islam for us and for you. We hope that your repentance will be accepted, for Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, commanded repentance from all sins and promised to accept it. He said:[Al-Anfal 8:38] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: , and it is authentic from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam) . So repentance is accepted from the sinner, the disbeliever, and the apostate if
they repent with a valid repentance. Allah said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:25] And He said: [Az-Zumar 39:53] The scholars have agreed that this noble verse was revealed regarding those who repent. Those who told you that your repentance is not accepted are mistaken and speak without knowledge. We advise you to stay away from the causes of fitnah, to be cautious of the callers to misguidance, to do many righteous deeds, and to learn beneficial knowledge. May Allah grant success and guide to the straight path. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And it is He who accepts repentance from his servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do.
